Continuing the debates and discussions started at Dorset COP, our first webinar of 2025 features the postponed session on climate and the media. At this event we’ll be discussing with Tom Chivers of the Media Reform Coalition how the media has set and misled the narrative on climate change, despite clear scientific evidence of the issues we face. We’ll also discuss how his research, in line with the aims of the Media Reform Coalition, outlines the need for a more democratic, diverse and independent media, ending the abuses and concentration of media power which have failed, not just the climate emergency, but the very fabric of our democracy.

Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) has achieved its highest-ever ranking in the People & Planet University League, achieving a First for the first time. The 2024/25 People & Planet University League ranks 149 UK universities against several criteria linked to climate and social justice. AUB gained an impressive 30 places on last year's ranking achieving 20th overall.

James Jackson, AUB's Environment and Sustainability Manager, comments, “Up against much larger institutions, this is a fantastic achievement for the University, and when the results are filtered by size – universities with 5,000 students or less – AUB comes in as the highest ranking in the UK.”

Students at Magna Academy in Poole have launched a campaign for free travel for under-25's across the conurbation. Members of the school's Change Makers for the Climate group chose the idea as a direct means of supporting BCP Council's Climate and Ecological Emergency actions.

Quoting data sourced from our Dorset 2030 Report, the campaign sets out how this approach will not only help to address the climate crisis but provide additional benefits such as ​improving health through cutting pollution, provide opportunities for all young people to travel around the area and increase the use of retail and hospitality businesses.
