![]() For those interested in the detailed analysis of Earth's climate processes, there are few sources better than former NASA scientist James Hansen (often called the Father of Climate Science). Hansen's latest detailed analysis examines the unprecedented warming over the past few years, explains why this is happening and warns that the outcome of 2025's results will be key to understanding whether recent temperatures have been due to exceptional circumstances or really are accelerating.

![]() A four-turbine wind farm built in a quarry has become the first of its kind to begin generating power in Dorset. Alaska Wind Farm at Masters Quarry in East Stoke, near Wareham is said to be capable of providing enough electricity for about 5,200 homes each year. ZCD supports such renewable energy projects as they produce much needed home grown power and should help bring energy bills down. But this project took 20 years to come to fruition and that is far too long if the UK is to reach at least 95% clean power generation by 2030. ![]() Two pairs of beavers have been released into the wild at Little Sea, Studland, under licence from the government. It was the first licence of its kind to be issued in England – all the previous ones have been for beavers in enclosures. ZCD believes this is a watershed moment for nature recovery in the UK. Beavers are often referred to as aquatic engineers, creating habitats where fish and other wildlife can thrive, reducing downstream flood risk and improving water quality.
![]() Bus passengers using Christchurch High Street are set to benefit from improvements by Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council that will make their journey safer and more efficient. The work involves providing better bus shelters fitted with real time information and raised curbs to allow easy level access on and off the bus. ZCD welcomes this investment to support more sustainable travel options for people living and working in the town. ![]() Dorset Council announced work to replace planters, trees and seating on Victoria Road, Ferndown later in the year. Protecting biodiversity will be a key focus of the new scheme, with "mature, specially-selected trees and sustainable landscaping" aiming to ensure the area is "vibrant, welcoming, and environmentally conscious". ZCD welcomes such works as planting trees in urban areas is vital in helping communities adapt to the changing climate by reducing temperatures, as well as providing a haven for wildlife and joy to people. |
