On Monday 8th June, 2020 a cross section of academics, campaigners, representatives of community groups and interested individuals met to consider what needs to be done to consider how land is utilised across the county and what the climate impact of this is and to start the work to develop a vision that both provides an inspiring goal to aim for and addresses the net emission / sequestration levels from land, opportunities to change the nature of agriculture and to grow more local food and, fundamentally, how land use in Dorset can be changed to mitigate climate change impacts, while also providing benefits to wildlife and people.
Following an introduction from ZCD's Mark Chivers, opening presentations were made by Adrian Newton - Professor And Director Conservation Ecology – Bournemouth University, Ruth Andrade – Regenerative Impact, Earth Care and Giving – Lush and Ben Davis - Agroecological Advisor and Water Stewardship Coordinator – Lush. Theresa McManus – Funding Development Support & Sustainability Champion (BU) & Transition Town Bournemouth led a wide ranging discussion after the presentations, details of which are now being considered to develop a vision statement.
