More than 50 per cent of Dorset's households were deprived in some way, as of the 2021 Census.
The most deprived areas of Dorset have been revealed, 2021 census figures show. The Office for National Statistics (ONS), which gatherers data from last year’s census, has published a map which shows, down to street level, which parts of the county are hit hardest by deprivation. More than half of Dorset was being affected by deprivation as of the time of the 2021 census, with 50.1% in the Dorset Council area and 51.7% in the BCP area. The ONS splits deprivation into four ‘dimensions’: education, employment, health and housing. For education, a household is deprived if no one has at least level 2 education (GCSEs or apprenticeships) and no one aged 16 to 18 years is a full-time student; a household is considered deprived for employment if anyone not a student is either unemployed or disabled. https://mapping.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/statistics-and-insights/Topics/Topic/Deprivation Map:https://www.ons.gov.uk/census/maps/choropleth/population/household-deprivation/hh-deprivation/household-is-deprived-in-one-dimension?lad=E06000059
